Understanding Colour  & Monotypes

This courses is for beginners and/or those wishing to refresh their skills.

 Monoprints /Monotype

Both involve the transfer of ink from a plate to the paper, canvas, or other surface. They are one-off prints that can’t be replicated

• Monotypes are one-off impressions made by applying ink to a feature less plate and transferring it to another surface. 

 • Monoprint refers to a print that includes an element of another print process e.g. intaglio plate, relief block, or screen print with some direct painting added to it. 

Colour Theory

Learn the basic principles of colour to understand how to use colour. 
Course aims: 
• Looking at colour theory 
• Understanding complimentary colours,  harmony in colour with analogous and triadic colour schemes 
• Experiment with using colours. 
• Gell slab monotype printing. 
 • Transfer monotypes. 
 • How to achieve different tones and Multi colour’s in your print. 
 • Use of stencils and masks 
 • Hand transfer and press transfer

1 Day course. Understanding Colour & Monotypes 

Course structure: 
Start at 10am work through the morning, taking the freely available tea, coffee and biscuits as and when we choose, until about 1pm when we break for lunch. You can either bring packed lunch or pick something up from the many places on Mill Road. The afternoon continues until leaving at around 4pm. 
All materials will be supplied for this courses.
