These courses both 1 day or 2 days are for beginners and/or those wishing to refresh their skills.

Handmade books are special, they are not like other possessions, they have a significance that sets them apart from everyday objects. Modern bookbinding combines new and traditional methods and materials to create handcrafted books.
The 1 day course and the 2 day course teach different techniques.
1 day workshop
The 1 day workshop will introduce you to some different stitching methods. It will enable you to make a book with either coptic, french link, button hole or crisscross binding (also known as secret belgian binding) techniques.
You will learn how to recycle old papers to make beautiful unique books.
Course outcomes:
• Explanation of the technique with examples.
• Go through different tools and materials.
• Introduction to coptic stich, french link, button hole stich & crisscross binding
• You will leave with your own finished stitched book and the knowledge to enable you to work on your own projects.
2 day workshop
The 2 day workshop allows you the time to marble your own papers & make a hard back cover. Enabling you to make your own sectioned sewn case bound book.
Course outcomes:
• Explanation of the technique with examples.
• Go through different tools and materials.
• Japanese marbling for the end papers
• By the end of the course you will have a beautiful unique multi section hard cover case bound bookbook.
• The knowledge to enable you to work on your own projects.

Course structure for 1 & 2 days:
Start at 10am work through the morning, taking the freely available tea, coffee and biscuits as and when we choose, until about 1pm when we break for lunch. You can either bring packed lunch or pick something up from the many places on Mill Road. The afternoon continues until 4pm.
All materials will be supplied for this courses.
